Emergency Medicine Residency Program

What happens when you couple a world-class Emergency Medicine (EM) training environment with a truly great American city?

A better residency experience … that’s what. As the 9th largest city in the USA, Dallas, Texas, offers a vibrant urban lifestyle yet maintains a smaller community's more intimate feel. Some of the finest cultural attractions in the country are located here. Several nationally ranked colleges and universities call Dallas home. The area is also host to a variety of sports and entertainment venues. You can bet life in Dallas is never dull.

Established in 1903, Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) has dedicated more than 100 years to educating physicians while caring for the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex and the Southwestern United States. BUMC is consistently listed among the highest-rated hospitals nationally. BUMC is the nation's second-largest nonprofit private hospital providing 915 licensed beds, including 128 ICU beds, and functioning as a quaternary referral center. BUMC is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Chest Pain Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Transplant Center. The Emergency Department (ED) houses 85 beds in a 54,781 ft ² area managing > 110,00 patient visits per year. The ED has logged zero ambulance closure hours since 2010. Approximately 27% of patients evaluated in the ED are admitted to the hospital. Approximately 5% of all admissions require ICU-level inpatient care after ED stabilization. Our high-efficiency ED flow processes ensure patients are seen in a timely manner resulting in improved quality of care and greater patient and staff satisfaction.

The BUMC EM curriculum is designed to produce Emergency Physicians of the highest caliber that are capable of practicing in any clinical environment upon graduation. Our residents will be energetically recruited to provide best practices emergency care in the clinical setting of their choice upon graduation.
