Application Process

EM Residency Application

We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to accept residency applications, Standardized Letters of Evaluation (SLOEs), letters of recommendation, Dean’s MSPE, transcripts, and other credentials.

Application Requirements
Completed ERAS applications include:

  • ERAS Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE Transcript
  • COMLEX Transcript (applicable applicants)
  • Personal Statement
  • MSPE (Dean’s Letter)
  • SLOE x 2

Interview Process

We look forward to a resolution to the COVID pandemic and will engage in face-to-face processes that are compliant with CDC guidelines**, local health entities guidelines, and institutional policies upon notification that such encounters have been deemed safe to resume. When face-to-face processes are approved, the standard interview itinerary would include:

  • Dinner Meet-and-Greet with Residents
  • Breakfast Orientation to:
    • BUMC EM Program
    • BUMC facility
    • Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex
  • Interviews with key EM Faculty
  • Tour of the BUMC ED and key Hospital Locations
  • Lunch Meet-and-Greet with EM Faculty and Residents
  • Contact information for timely correspondence with key Program Faculty

**Based on current information available from CDC guidelines, local health entities, and institutional policies, we are prepared for a virtual interview process at the present time.

The BUMC Department of Emergency Medicine has a long and successful history of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education delivered and managed by Residency Trained Board Certified/Eligible Emergency Physicians.

Student Rotation

Rotation length: 4 weeks

Rotation shift schedule: 8-hour shifts. 16 total shifts.

Patient volume: 100,000+

Housing availability/cost: a variety of housing options are available at reasonable cost

Student conferences: medical students attend the resident block conference on Thursday from 8:00am to 12:00pm

Reading material: provided

Prerequisites: 4th year medical school elective

Malpractice insurance: malpractice coverage must be provided through your home institution for approval to rotate with BUMC EM

Special opportunities: Emergency Medicine Ultrasound and Emergency Department Administration experiences are available.
